Susan Spisz, Director of Lower School

Welcome to Chapelgate’s Lower School!  We believe that each person bears the image of a Holy, loving and living God. Additionally, we believe that children are uniquely made and gifted differently. Thus, our staff is dedicated to sharing truth and inspiring our young students to discover and explore their talents and interests in an inclusive community.  Originally founded as a school for students in grades 6-12, a preschool was established in 2013 to serve parents looking for a nurturing, developmental program with a Christian worldview for their younger students.  Today our community includes children from four years old to fifth grade.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:14

Why Chapelgate Christian Academy Lower School?

When you think of your early years of school, what do you remember? Is it a reading group, math lesson, center activity, cursive, history report or science experiment? Maybe. It was most likely experiences and people that made you enjoy learning. Chapelgate’s Lower School students know first-hand that learning is a fun, life-long endeavor.

Community is at the heart of all that we do at CCA. At the core of our developmentally appropriate and challenging curriculum and excellently qualified teachers is relationships. It is these relationships with God and one another that makes Chapelgate most desirable. None of us is perfect, but each of us is specially gifted. Our students develop friendships with their peers and teachers that last beyond their years in the Lower School. Our Upper School students connect in unique ways with our Lower School students to serve as mentors and assistants. Families befriend families. It is these relationships and a true sense of community that set us apart from other lower schools.

Preparing for Success

The Chapelgate Lower School, as part of a larger school organization, is in a wonderful position to provide students with many unique resources to prepare them to be life-long learners. We have one to three high school students assisting the teachers throughout the day. These teacher aides, always under the direct supervision of teachers, provide the opportunity for more one on one interaction with the preschool students. Our Drama, Humanities and Middle School classes perform skits and puppet shows and read children’s literature as part of their own curriculum, much to the delight of our young learners! We have access to the science projects and experiments of the middle and high school science programs.

Preschool Instruction

We utilize multiple curriculums to enhance our programs at each level.

  • Teachers of our four-year-old students use “Scholastic’s Big Day for Pre K” curriculum.
  • Teachers of our Pre K use The Investigator Club Curriculum Prekindergarten Learning System
  • Chapelgate Lower School utilizes a STEAM curriculum for our four-year-old learners as they prepare for Kindergarten .
  • Our Kindergarten through Fifth Grade teachers use a myriad of curricula and materials including the Phonics, Abeka Language, Purposeful Design, and Saxon Mathematics.

Upwardly Focused

As a Christian Early Education program, we strive first and foremost to model Christ’s love to our young charges. We use Positive Action Bible curriculum throughout the programs. Our intermediate grade students are encouraged in daily devotions.
